HISTORY

Design and Creation

Renault 19 is the result of the development program called X53 to create a C-segment vehicle. The development of R-19 began in November 1984 and in July 1985 the mechanical part was completed. Until April 1986 worked on the interior and R-19 was incorporated into the production line. In May 1988, there were more than 7.5 million miles of testing, to implement and confirm the technology, the reliability and durability of the vehicle.

The design of the Renault 19 was the result of the development work of the project in collaboration with the Renault-established and renowned designer Giorgio Giugiaro. Basically, design intent was to create a streamlined vehicle and mechanical strength, always within the line of compact cars.

Thus the results optimized in the wind tunnel to reach a drag 0.31 Cx.

To emphasize the advancement of R-19 at the time of its development, we must emphasize, for example, a series 1 do BMW de 2004 who presented the same aerodynamic, but sixteen years later developed.

The Renault engineers also considered security as a factor of importance and included the availability of protection against side impact and even the air bags in the latest versions.

Intending to increase the number of units sold the RENAULT 19 was designed with three, four and five door. The most common version was the five-door. Later the four-door version was different from the hatchback incorporating a trunk larger than the sedan made a real, known by the trade name for this version of Renault 19 Call.

But soon, gave rise to three-door version, after being replaced by the rise of the convertible model known as: Renault 19 Convertible.

Manufacture

Renault O 19 was produced in the factories of Renault's Douai and Maubeuge (France) e em Valladolid (Spain) as in Setubal (Portugal).

It was later produced by Renault in Santa Isabel, Cordova (Argentina) which was produced until 1999.

To satisfy the desires of all its customers was produced in four basic models, or between Ls diferenciava, were optional equipment. These four models are powered with 11 different types of engines, to reach a greater number of customers, in the automotive market.

Awards and Recognition

In Spain, by Renault 19 is chosen 1989 as the "Car of the Year" and also in Germany, in the same year, he is elected as the "best of imported cars". Na Argentina, was voted "Car of the Year" 1993.

Change Version

In 1992, by Renault 19 Phase II of the project, was marketed. A version adapted to new times, with a new design (design) and with new engines (engines receive fuel injection). Phase II is visually distinguished by the rounded lines of the original, with new headlights and taillights and a redesigned new panel. The other elements have also been technological changes.

In 1995 presented is the successor, model known as the Renault Megane.
